LOCAL businesses will have the ear of key decision-makers at a special event organised by Keighley MP John Grogan. The Keighley Economic Forum will take place at Keighley College on Friday, June 21, and will be free to attend for people from new or existing businesses. Mr Grogan described Keighley as a "magnificent place with huge potential", but said there was a need for debate on how the town could be positively promoted as a great place to live, work and do business. Keighley College principal Colin Booth said he was delighted to be hosting the economic seminar.

BURNING issues in Silsden and Steeton came under the spotlight at a meeting called by Keighley MP John Grogan. Mr Grogan gathered together local councillors and a host of organisations to discuss a masterplan for the villages. He wanted to generate solutions to challenges thrown up by increasing housing development across the Aire Valley in Craven Ward. Mr Grogan said a wide range of traffic and planning issues were discussed by representatives from the council and other public agencies.

CONSTRUCTION work is due to start on the site of a planned privately-run cemetery off Black Hill Lane, Keighley. The agent for the landowner said a contractor had been taken on to build the intended graveyard's boundary wall. Michael Ainsworth, of Michael Ainsworth Design Partnership, said: "After working closely with the local authority planning department we're pleased to announce that planning conditions associated with the boundary wall have been discharged. "And I'm pleased to announce that Heritage Masonry have been appointed as contractors for the new wall.

KEIGHLEY'S MP and new town mayor have met to discuss how they can collaborate to support the area. Mayor Councillor Fulzar Ahmed said he spoke to MP John Grogan at a meeting on June 1. "We pledged to work together to make sure we can jointly find solutions for issues in Keighley," Cllr Ahmed added. "Among the topics we mentioned were Airedale Hospital, the planned shopping centre in East Parade and the cemetery to be built off Black Hill Lane. "During my time as town mayor I also intend to work closely with Bradford Council, and to see what opportunities we have to share resources."
