Plans for a new cross-Pennine rail link have “caught up” with London’s proposals for Crossrail 2, the North’s transport body said as Chris Grayling was warned to avoid a “real scandal” on the East Coast Main Line. The prospects for transport in the region are at a critical point, with Transport for the North (TfN) working at “breakneck” speed to produce a costed plan for Northern Powerhouse Rail and the Transport Secretary poised to announce the next steps for the East Coast line within days. TfN’s chief executive officer Barry White told a meeting of MPs and peers that the country’s first sub-national transport body is now “marching in lock-step” with Crossrail 2 as Mr Grayling considers funding of future infrastructure projects.

TWO Wharfedale MPs are calling on Channel 4 to set up a new base in Leeds. The broadcaster confirmed in March that it would be moving hundreds of staff out of its London headquarters after securing a deal with the Government. More than a quarter of the company's 800 employees in London are set to be relocated and Birmingham has been tipped as the new regional base. But there is also expected to be at least one other new regional hub created - and Leeds is one of 12 cities that have been lobbying for the position.

KEIGHLEY air cadets impressed the town’s MP with their interest in current affairs when he visited their base. John Grogan spent time with the uniformed teenagers of 2431 (Keighley) Squadron at Keighley’s historic Drill Hall. The cadets thoroughly enjoyed his visit and were very enthusiastic when it came to ‘question time’. Mr Grogan said: “It was a great privilege to visit the Keighley squadron of the Air Training Corps particularly in the year we celebrate 100 years of the Royal Air Force.

KEIGHLEY'S MP swapped the often-choppy waters of Parliament for a calmer environment at the weekend. John Grogan enjoyed a two-hour trip aboard the Leeds and Liverpool Canal Society's floating museum, Kennet. He joined fellow society members on Saturday as the boat made its way through his constituency, from Silsden to Riddlesden. Mr Grogan chairs the All Party Parliamentary Group for inland waterways. "Amongst other things the trip enabled John to see for himself progress with the ongoing upgrade to the canal towpath into Silsden," said Colin Thunhurst, a society trustee.
