THE moment when a speeding car narrowly missed mowing down a pedestrian in South Street, Keighley, was captured on film. The potentially lethal antics of a pair of Audi drivers was caught on video by a horrified motorist whose own vehicle came close to being hit in the same incident. A still picture from the footage shows the cars – which were racing each other – heading towards Ingrow at about 7.45pm on June 26. A pedestrian in a light coloured top was about to cross the road but can be seen getting back onto the kerb, just in time to avoid being run over by the white Audi.

THE number of houses built in the district over the coming years may be reduced by thousands, as Bradford Council has been urged to alter its local development plans. It means that large areas of Bradford’s green land that were likely to be allocated for housing may now be spared. But one councillor fears that developers will try to make the most of the time before this new, reduced figure is adopted to try and secure developments in the more rural areas of the district.

Key Cabinet Minister James Brokenshire has committed to respond “in detail” to proposals for the devolution of powers and money from Westminster to a Yorkshire-wide mayor. In his first public comments on the plans since being appointed in April, the Local Government Secretary told The Yorkshire Post he was also “very conscious” of the “lively debate” over devolution in Yorkshire. Sheffield City Region Mayor Dan Jarvis, who is trying to broker a ‘One Yorkshire’ devolution deal, welcomed Mr Brokenshire’s commitment as a chance to break the “deadlock” in talks.

KEIGHLEY councillors have been encouraged to join the Jet set. District and town council representatives are being urged to leave their cars at home and hop on a bus. They are being offered a free ‘ticket to ride’ as part of national Catch the Bus Week, which began on Monday. Keighley Bus Company hopes the initiative, through the Transdev Go mobile phone app, will tempt more people to ditch their cars and travel on its popular Jets service network. Catch the Bus Week – now in its sixth year – is promoted by the sustainable travel group, Greener Journeys, with the backing of operators.
