SILSDEN’S planned 640-pupil primary school will badly affect local residents’ quality of life, warns Keighley’s MP. John Grogan fears vehicles taking children to and from the school will cause parking and congestion problems in residential streets surrounding the proposed site. He is backing residents who claim the school – which will replace the former Hothfield and Aire View junior and infant schools – could cause “great disturbance to the lifestyles and serenity” of its neighbours.

A FORMAL complaint has been submitted to Bradford Council over its "shameful dereliction of duty" in relation to damage caused to protected woodland in Ilkley. Last summer John Ogden, a landowner on Victoria Drive, angered neighbours when he ordered the removal of trees to the side of his property, which had previously been used as a woodland area by residents, and installed a new fence. He was later forced to remove the fence after being served a formal notice. Bradford Council had been considering taking enforcement action over damage to protected trees but has now closed the file. It says Mr Ogden has undertaken new tree planting - eight black pine and six flowering cherries - and officers are satisfied this mitigates tree enforcement breaches on the site.

Asian powerhouse economies like China and India recognise the potential of the Yorkshire economy as a whole, an MP said yesterday in response to scepticism about the benefits of a pan-region devolution deal. Labour MP John Grogan suggested the region would see a boost in international investment if it could win back powers and money from Westminster under a ‘One Yorkshire’ agreement. He was responding to Wakefield council leader Peter Box, who has backed pan-Yorkshire devolution, but rated the prospect of a deal as “unlikely”.

KEIGHLEY sunseekers can jet off on holiday with just one bus ride thanks to a new service to Leeds Bradford Airport. The Keighley Bus Company has launched a direct link from Keighley to the airport via Silsden, Steeton, Addingham, Ilkley and Otley. The 62 service between Keighley and the airport will run every hour throughout the day from Mondays to Saturdays, with extra journeys between the airport and Otley on Sundays. Keighley Bus Company boss Alex Hornby said: “We’re delighted to extend the 62 to and from Leeds Bradford Airport, and it’s great to have the airport backing us in this new venture.
