A PIONEERING high-tech company is moving into the Aire Valley – bringing a multi-million pound investment and jobs. Globally-growing Gaist Holdings is setting-up its head office close to Keighley, in a move hailed as an "exciting" boost for the area. The company has identified a potential site, where it hopes to be fully operational by the summer. Recruitment has already begun. The development was welcomed this week by Keighley MP John Grogan. "Keighley and the Aire Valley have a tradition of manufacturing and engineering to be proud of – with many such firms thriving in the area to this day," he said. "This exciting new investment, based on the most modern technology, will help ensure this tradition continues in the future."

RESIDENTS are campaigning to stop a 19th century "quirky, characterful property" in Ilkley from being demolished saying it should be preserved for generations to come. A planning application has been submitted to Bradford Council to demolish the three storey, detached, 9, Yew Croft, Westville Road, Ilkley and replace it with a new build house. While the house falls just outside of the town's conservation area many residents say this is an oversight and the building is an important part of Ilkley's heritage and should be retained.

ENTERTAINMENT and competitions were held in Knowle Park to celebrate Bangladesh Independence Day and Bengali New Year. Keighley's Bangladeshi Community Association (BCA) held the events in Lund Park on April 12 and at its base in Kensington Street on April 15. The occasion raised £500 to help Rohingya refugees who have been driven out of Burma and into Bangladesh. The contests in the park included tug of war, speed walking and a children's treasure hunt. There was also a Bangladesh themed art competition and a table tennis contest.

PLANS to move Keighley’s Jobcentre Plus from its current home in Worth House remain on the table, according to a Department of Work and Pensions (DWP) spokesman. But no information is yet being released on when this move could take place, and where exactly the new Jobcentre would be. The DWP spokesman said: “Our plan is to move Keighley Jobcentre to a co-location with other public services at some point in the future, bringing more of the services that customers and claimants use into one place.
