Lord Timothy Kirkhope of Harrogate has thrown his support behind the campaign to reinstate the Grand Committee for Yorkshire and the Humber, launched ahead of Yorkshire Day this weekend.

Lord Kirkhope, who was MP for Leeds East in the 1980s and 1990s, thinks the resurrection of the group will provide a space for the 54 Parliamentarians representing Yorkshire and the Humber to discuss issues that affect the whole region.

A COMMUNITY campaign to save the historic Hermit pub in Burley Woodhead has been successful.

The Save the Hermit group has announced that following their campaign to have the 400-year-old pub registered as an Asset of Community Value, the sale by auction was withdrawn and the previous owner has accepted an offer from the Burley Woodhead Pub Company.

A CAMPAIGN has been launched to save the historic Hermit pub in Burley Woodhead.

A planning application to convert the 400-year-old pub into residential accommodation is currently out to public consultation and a decision is expected by Bradford Council in April.

As parts of Yorkshire sign up to devolution deals, transferring sought-after powers away from Whitehall and into the hands of elected metro mayors, it may seem like the dream of a One Yorkshire agreement, bringing all corners of the region under one roof, is dead.

But for former Keighley MP John Grogan, one of the first proponents of a One Yorkshire deal, it is not time to give up yet - but the idea was on hold.
