I recently chaired a meeting between Shadow Transport Secretary Louise Haigh MP (second right) and officers of SELRAP (Skipton East Lancashire Rail Action Partnership) to discuss the proposed restoration of a twelve mile rail link between Skipton and Colne which was closed in 1970.

‘When the people of Ilkley voted in May for a split council of seven Conservatives and seven progressives (four Labour, one Green, one Liberal Democrat and one Ilkley Community Alliance) the obvious thing over the four year cycle was to have a Conservative Mayor one year and a Progressive mayor the next.

Yorkshire Day 2023, sees England’s largest county trailing most other English regions in terms of income per head, productivity, life expectancy and educational attainment. The latest available GDP figures indicate that at £26K per capita Yorkshire and the Humber is less than half as rich as London and the average tyke is £3000 poorer than the typical Scot.

The 25th anniversary of the Good Friday agreement 

Today is the  25th anniversary of April 10th 1998 when the Good Friday agreement was signed in Northern Ireland. This successfully brought decades of ‘the troubles’ involving bombings and murders to an end. President Biden will be in Belfast later in the week to mark the occasion.
