AN AUTISM resource and support group has received its first cheque from the Big Lottery Fund. As part of the fund’s Reaching Communities scheme, AWARE was told late last year it had been granted £219,526 over a three-year period to help with core costs. AWARE is a parent-run group that supports over 300 families, across the Airedale and Wharfedale region and beyond, including in Bradford, with children and young adults on the autistic spectrum – whether they have been formally diagnosed or not. It says the funding is vital at a time when large-scale cuts are being made to support services for children in the area.

KEIGHLEY MP John Grogan says a "dangerous precedent" has been set following Britain's involvement in the air and missile strikes on Syria. The US, UK and France carried out the action in retaliation for a suspected chemical weapons attack last Saturday. According to the US, three targets have been struck – a research facility in Damascus and storage facilities near Homs. The Syrian government, which denies using chemical weapons, called the strikes a flagrant violation of international law.

WOMEN campaigning for justice over the pension age met Ilkley's MP John Grogan to discuss their concerns. Mr Grogan held a meeting at the civic centre in Keighley on Saturday to talk about the the financial and emotional impact caused by the acceleration of the State Pension Age for women born in the 1950s. The MP said 4200 women in the Keighley and Ilkley Constituency had been affected by the Act of Parliament in 2011, which raised the age at which they could claim their pension.

The DUP MLA Maurice Bradley has apologised for retweeting a message calling the Mayor of London the "enemy within". The tweet attacked Sadiq Khan over refusing to support a total ban on Hezbollah. It comes after Mr Bradley's party colleague Ian Paisley apologised for sharing an anti-Islam message. Mr Bradley has since shut down his Twitter account. "I removed earlier RT and apologise for it," he said. "I disagree with Sadiq Khan's approach to Hezbollah - brutal terrorist apologists. "The mayor has a democratic mandate and his religion is irrelevant."
