This is my own list of the top ten achievements over the next 13 years.
 
The period 1997 to 2010 saw the most dramatic improvements in our public services, such as health and education, with the largest ever peacetime investment in them together with record employment levels and new employment rights for workers.
  • Minimum Wage
  • Peace in Ireland and the Good Friday Agreement
  • Devolution. In Scotland , Ireland , Wales and London . Next time it’s Yorkshire !
  • World’s first Climate Change Act
  • The Human Rights Act and Equality Act
  • Free bus travel for pensioners , free tv licences for the over 75’s and a massive reduction in pensioner poverty
  • Cancellation of up to 100% of the debt of the world’s poorest countries and the setting of a target of 0.7% of the nation’s gross national income to go on international aid
  • Delivered 2.200 Sure Start Children’s centres and record levels of numeracy and literacy amongst young people
  • Was tough on crime and tough on the causes of crime employing over 14000 more police in England and Wales and cutting overall crime by 32%
  • Plus the Selby By Pass , Selby Flood Defences and the brand new Selby War Memorial Hospital
